About the event

A fantastic opportunity to learn and apply techniques from artist Mark Warner, following his demonstration the previous day.

Mark is an experienced practicing artist and tutor who works from his studio in North Shropshire, UK.

Line and colour are at the heart of his work and this is informed through sketching and further ‘plein air’ work. Drawing is integral to the development of the piece and sometimes forming part of the work itself.  He continues to draw inspiration from the landscape and adores using colour while interpreting the light, contrast, weather and a love of the materials. He works in Oils and Acrylics on Canvas, board and paper.

Mark developed his passion for Landscapes and Seascapes while growing up on the West Wales coast. The rolling hills of Shropshire and North Wales also enable him to experiment with colour and line further.  Mark runs painting workshops as well as being a regular tutor on painting holidays in the UK and France. He will be running another fabulous week in a Loire Chateau in France again in September.

He is an enthusiastic painting demonstrator for Art Societies throughout the UK and has become increasingly popular with his informative delivery. Mark has numerous paintings in private collections around the world. He sells work through galleries in both England and Wales as well as through his website.

Mark has attached a materials list for the workshop below.

The idea is to take you through a step by step process in painting a version of the Landscape image you will have been given. Please save this onto your ipad/tablet or print off A4 as no copies will be available on the day.  We will look at composition, contrast and colour application.

Materials List

Mark will be working straight onto either A2 Watercolour paper/ canvas or board. He will have sheets of this watercolour paper to buy on the day at cost price for £2 each if that helps.

No smaller than A3. It is best to work a bit bigger for this. Mark tends to put a light wash of sienna over first.

We will be using acrylics and the colours Mark would like you to have available are:

Naples Yellow

Cerulean Blue (Important)

Prussian Blue

Ultramarine

Magenta

Cadmium red

Burnt Umber

White

Lemon yellow/cadmium yellow

Hookers green

If you have some other colours that is fine too

A palette (Mark uses a disposable one for workshops), cloth, water pot, softer brushes (a flat brush 16/18 and a rigger brush)

A board for the paper and an easel if you have one.

Other brushes are also fine (Synthetic are best for this); not stiff oil brushes

Limited to 15 spaces, cost is £36 per member.  To book on the workshop, please contact bookings.exmouthartgroup@gmail.com. Payment to be made when reserving your space - please visit our Joining Page for our bank details, or pay in cash or by card on a Thursday social session.
